Beauty and Durability:

APC manufactures products which are in a class above and beyond the rest. Its floors are durable and easy to maintain. That is, all APC flooring is known to last for decades. It is triple coated to protect the cork from wear and tear, and spills and stains, while allowing for the surface to be easily mopped and swept leaving an always beautiful floor. Our cork flooring does not fade in the sunlight, and due to elegant color streaks on the material, a look of depth and attractiveness is present in APC’s flooring that rivals all other flooring alternatives. On the other hand, hardwood floors tend to become dented and scratched while fading from exposure to direct sunlight. Hardwood floors also collect foreign matter between boards and within the pores of individual boards that often taint and discolor the wood over time.

Comfort and Safety:

Cork flooring has been recognized as a major benefit to those with major joint and knee problems, particularly arthritis, because the floor is uniquely shock-absorbent and thereby considerably more forgiving to the bodies of those who walk on them. This is because 90% of cork is compromised of gaseous matter.¹ In addition, not only are APC’s cork products exceptionally soft, but they are fire resistant, and when burned, they release no noxious gases or elements. Now, cork flooring does undergo minor contractions in the wintertime and expansions in the summertime, yet since unlike wood, its internal movement is in all directions, and not just against the grain, it is rarely noticeable, contrasting wood. Unlike cork floors, carpeting is known to amass various kinds of mold and dust mites that contribute to allergies, colds, and potentially even breathing problems such as asthma.

Production:

The production of our cork flooring materials is not chemical or oil intensive as is the case with, say, carpeting. As a result, our cork products do not have deleterious elements just waiting to enter your lungs or rub on your skin. Carpet, on the other hand, is largely petroleum-based, and the adhesives commonly used in the carpet making process, benzene and toluene, can cause minor to serious illness in those repeatedly exposed to them.
